The State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium (SNCURCS) highlights the scholarship of students from both private and state-supported colleges, universities, and community colleges across NC (110 institutions of higher learning). Representatives from NC companies, as well as graduate and professional school recruiters, are invited to set up displays as a way of attracting the state’s very best rising graduates. Since its start in 2005 with 218 presentations and 22 schools represented, SNCURCS has grown to 363 presentations, 49 schools represented, and twice the number of students, mentors and guests attending. In 2010, its sixth year of existence, 14 public universities, 22 private colleges and universities, 4 community colleges, and the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics participated. 346 student presentations were given (exhibit, oral, poster and visual and performing arts) and over 700 students, mentors, administrators, recruiters, high school teachers and students, and parents participated. SNCURCS is also being noted as a national model for other states in the nation having served as the model for the Utah Conference on Undergraduate Research. The SNCURCS event was held at East Carolina University in Greenville on November 19, 2011.
