John T. McCarter
Retired President and CEO, GE-Latin America
Mr. John McCarter retired from General Electric (GE) after more than thirty years and serving in corporate officer roles in GE’s Energy business and its corporate region management. In his final position with GE, as President and Region Executive—Power Systems Sales Europe, Mr. McCarter was responsible for consolidating and directing European commercial activities across the portfolio of GE’s business units dealing with electrical energy production and management, as well as the oil and gas energy industry from 2001 to 2003. During his tenure with GE, from 1996 to 2001, Mr. McCarter served as President and CEO of GE-Latin America, where he was responsible for growing and restructuring the spectrum of GE’s business lines in South and Central America, and the Caribbean. In addition, Mr. McCarter held general manager positions for GE’s Power Systems’ operations in Latin America, North America and global Customer Service from 1987 to 1996. Following graduation from NC State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in nuclear engineering, Mr. McCarter joined GE on its Technical Marketing Program and he currently serves on NC State’s Board of Visitors. For many years he served as the executive liaison for GE and NC State University and was also a member of the NC State Engineering Foundation Board, including a term as President of that board. Mr. McCarter is also a member of the Inter-American Dialogue, a Washington-based think tank.
