Director Kenan Fellows Program for Teacher Leadership

Dr. Vance Kite is the director of the Kenan Fellows Program for Teacher Leadership, affiliated with the Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology & Science at North Carolina State University. The Kenan Fellows Program is an innovative model to promote teacher leadership, address teacher retention and advance K-12 science, technology, and mathematics education. Public school teachers selected as Kenan Fellows participate in the prestigious fellowship while remaining active in the classroom.

Dr. Kite is a 2012-13 Kenan Fellow and the first alumnus to be named to this leadership position. Throughout his career as an educator and a researcher, Dr. Kite has earned his National Board Teaching Certification, has published his research on science education and teacher professional development extensively, and has given more than 30 presentations at international education research conferences.

Additionally, he has received numerous awards and recognitions for his exemplary work including being named the 2013 City of Medicine Academy Teacher of the Year and is a recipient of the Outstanding Dissertation Award for the NC State College of Education, the NC State Provost Scholar Leader Fellowship and has been inducted into multiple academic honor societies, including Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Xi. Dr. Kite has a B.S. in Biology from Colorado Christian University, an M.Ed. in Teaching and Learning in STEM and a Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning in STEM both from NC State.
